Die cut builders are pretty cool because you can build something using scraps or white cardstock. You can use whatever colors you like but if you know me, I tend to stick with the typical colors and I tend to use white cardstock to color up to my preference. But regardless of how you want to use the die cuts, you can easily create an easy scene card.

I like trying out new color combos that I don’t tend to use often — I think this worked out well because I had an anchor color. The gold embossing really tied all the pieces together here.

This year, I’m trying to use up my colored cardstock — I have so much of it and rarely reach for it! I picked a dark red, adding a subtle pierced background to it. I love how the cake pops just pop!

Gotta love the rainbow colors for a change from the cozy, jewel toned notes of Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, the holidays are filled with my favorite colors but I just love the sentiment Merry and Bright and love to bring in the rainbow colors.

Smaller images are harder to create a scene since you need to use more to fill up the space BUT if you use a large die cut sentiment, you can place the images within and fill up the space that way.

I love fall and this background is so subtle and pretty with ombre leaves — I also created a border of sunflowers down the card panel. I just can’t help but use copic markers to color up my die cut images.

I love to pull out some of my old Halloween tricks — just because it doesn’t get old. I love a moving element and this spider is too cute… it won’t spook you right?

I love fall — the jewel tones are just cozy and up my alley but I also am digging this dusty fall palette that google inspired me with! I just love how I was able to incorporate it with the stencil and then the die cut word.

It usually takes me a lot to pull out heavy die cut sets, mainly because I like to stamp and color. However, if you follow me, you know I color up my die cuts and usually that’s why I don’t use them too often — it’s a little too fussy for me but this set is amazing, the cat is so freaking adorable!

Stamps always come with coordinating dies — but have you seen stencils with coordinating dies? I’m pretty sure they aren’t new to the market but I haven’t used them. I inked the entire 6×6 stencil and then strategically picked which portion to trim off so I could use the dies to get images. It’s pretty cool! I didn’t need to ink this up twice.

Today, I’m sharing a card featuring one of the sets from the Hero Arts Holiday Catalog release called Cozy Study. I tend to gravitate towards cards that can easily create scenes because of all the possibilities. You can create a full scene, use the smaller elements to create a background, or even create a mini scene — there’s so many ideas to work with!
For this card, I decided to create a subtle mini scene with a focus on one main image. I decided to mask off half my Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock card panel so I could focus my scene on the top half. I stamped the fireplace, dog, books, candle, and clock with Clear Embossing and Watermark Ink, then covered it with White Embossing Powder, and heat set it. Since embossing powder resists ink, I wanted to do some ink blending right on top to bring color to the top part of this card. I used the colors Spicy Mustard, Moss, and Crimson Core Inks along with the Hero Arts Tool Medium Blending Brushes. I’ll use a microfiber cloth to wipe off any excess ink as well.
My main image was going to be the cozy chair but I decided to also add the sleeping cat right on top. I wanted it to look clean, so I decided to do a bit of masking. I stamped the cat first with Intens-ified Black Ink, masked him, and then stamped the couch right on top. I’ll remove the mask, fussy cut the couch and color it up with copic markers.
I trimmed my card panel just a quarter of an inch so the panel would be 4 x 5.25 and added the panel right on top of an A2 piece of Woodland cardstock so the brown will peek out on the left hand side matching the chair. My last touch was to add the sentiment, stamped with Intens-ified Black Ink right next to the couch. My images and focus pulls to the top of the card, leaving white space but it works very well here.
Thank you for joining me today for the Hero Arts Holiday Catalog blog hop. I hope you have feel inspired with all the different projects and ideas!
